Love like there's no tomorrow

Thursday, October 18, 2007

Do you know it's less than 10 weeks till Christmas! That's a terrible thought. But this year I'm ahead of the game. I've already finished some of my shopping.
But tomorrow is the big day. I'm officially going moose hunting for the first time.
Something I never ever thought in a million years would ever do. But, it just proves again that women can do this, and hopefully I will have pictures to prove this.
So, this is my last post before I leave because I won't have time tomorrow
Have a wonderful 2 weeks!

The Hunt

Well, the season has arrived and in a couple of days I will be on vacation. Now some of you might not call it much of a vacation because I'm not heading anywhere warm. Instead I'm heading north.
The year of my first moose hunt has arrived and our house looks like a bomb has hit it. Making lists and checking them twice seems to be the thing around here. Can't forget anything because of course we're so far away from home and civilization, you can't just run to the corner store.
I don't know who is more excited, my husband or me. He's excited because of course he's determined that I will shoot my first moose. Me, I'm just happy to be getting away. Getting away from everything and spending a couple of wonderful weeks with my husband with no one else around. Just to see more of our wonderful country is enough for me.
So, hopefully, I'll be posting some truly awesome pictures when we get back so you can share what I experienced.

Opening of the Hunt

What an opening this was a couple of weeks ago. I wait for this all year round, and the morning of the open of goose and duck hunt, there's my girlfriend Chris and my husband and myself, up at 4am getting into our gear. The early morning hours just don't seem to bother you when you know what the outcome can be. Even if you are up till midnight the night before, the excitement just overwhelms you. It's my favorite hunt I guess you could say. Probably because it is such a sociable hunt. You don't have to stay quiet and still like you do with deer or moose hunting.
So there we are, with coffee in hand, heading out the door anticipating our prize. Just seeing the world and hearing it wake up is almost enough. Especially where we go on the river. And it was especially super this year, because it was the first time my girlfriend got out with me instead of her husband. So, that just did it for both of us. We left daddy home with my god daughter this year.
The morning wasn't that great, not a lot of shooting going on anywhere. But we were still able to get some.
But then, the evening shoot was even better. Chris didn't go with us in the evening so it was just my husband Jay and myself that went out. We went to a different spot, and it was worth it. We literally limited out for the three of us because of what we got in the morning. It was absolutely fabulous. Along with that, we both shot a couple of banded geese, which is a feat in itself.
An opening to remember!
